Robson Executive Director, Facilities Management University of Victoria Dear Mr. Robson: Re: Responsibility to Control Nuisance I would like to bring to your attention an important concern that the Mount Tolmie Community Association (MTCA) has regarding rabbits in the UVic and MTCA areas. Possibly as a result of the construction being done on campus, there seems to be a movement of rabbits going into our residential neighbourhoods and our association has received complaints from residents who live on Gordon Head Road near Campus Crescent, Midgard Avenue and Emery Place and a few other locations. We would like to request that the University of Victoria stop the invasion of the residential area west of Gordon Head Road by UVic's large herd of rabbits. The westward movement of UVic rabbits can be observed in several ways. These pests are particularly evident in the early morning when they are feeding in the open. Large numbers can be counted in the UVic fields along Gordon Head Road. Numerous rabbits have been killed by cars along Gordon Head Road over the last month. Rabbits are appearing in the mornings at the four locations described above. Our neighbourhood has not usually been infested by these undesirable animals. Rabbits can damage our gardens, make unsightly and dangerous burrows around our properties, interfere with our irrigation equipment, and use our property adjoining UVic to propagate and spread this contagion on to the rest of our neighbourhood, and beyond. We understand that UVic willingly accommodates these rabbits, which we consider pests, on its land but we do not, and we request that UVic to act as a responsible landowner and stop this invasion immediately. Please note that we have also attached photos that have been taken by residents so that you can visually see the problem. We trust that UVic appreciates the urgency in the growing problem and that it will take immediate steps to resolve the problem. Yours truly, Patty Mack President, Mount Tolmie Community Association Marlene Bergstrom Vice-President, Mount Tolmie Community Association
